Hiring Manager Title Agronomy Research Manager

Job Description Work with Business Unit Agronomy Research Manager to plan and conduct Business Unit, Sales Area, and North America agronomy field trials and demonstrations. Partner with Area Agronomists, Account Managers, Sales Reps, Research, and Supply Management to create and deliver local, highly relevant agronomy information which differentiates Pioneer with customers.

Estimated start date is January 2010.

Duties/Responsibilities Plan and conduct local agronomy research trials (on-farm strips, small plot, and large field studies) in support of Area, Business Unit, and North America agronomy and sales priorities

--Develop protocols for Area and BU studies
--Work with Account Manager and Sales Rep to access test environments and grower cooperators with capability to address trial objectives
--Source and prepare seed and other materials for field studies
--Secure planting, spraying, and harvest equipment with grower cooperators and Research collaborators
--Ensure that treatments are applied and data is collected according to protocols
--Conduct field observations and collect images from trials for use in presentations
--Analyze, interpret, and develop appropriate summary reports and presentations for local studies

Design and manage all aspects of local agronomy and technology field expo and training demonstrations, working closely with Area Agronomist, Research Center, and Supply Management plant personnel
--Design, establish and maintain field demonstrations which visually highlight crop management and technology features
--Plan with local Research and Supply Management contacts to obtain seed, materials, and appropriate land for the demonstrations well in advance of planting

Present agronomy research and information at local field days, tours, and meetings as the knowledge expert of local and BU agronomy trials

Recruit, hire, orient, supervise, and evaluate seasonal interns

May develop content and deliver technical training using various methods

May assist in establishing local grower learning groups
--lead discussion of crop management trial interests
--compile and present results of local trials

Maintain a thorough knowledge of:
--Pioneer technologies, commercialization and launch timelines and related regulatory issues
--Compliance responsibilities for regulated field trials
--Agronomy and product research and demonstration protocols and experimental designs (small plot, on-farm strips, large field)
--Appropriate trials planning, data handling, and statistical analysis software
--Information delivery systems such as Agricultural Information System (AIS), Growing Point, Pioneer.com
--Crop management innovations and developments

Educational Qualifications Desired Field-research based M.S. or B.S. with equivalent experience in Agronomy, Weed Science, Soil Science, Plant Pathology, or Entomology.

Competencies and Experience Desired At least 2 to 4 years field research management experience with an agricultural company or university in conceiving, coordinating, executing, analyzing, interpreting, and reporting results from field research trials in writing and oral presentations is required.
Strong technical and practical knowledge of new crop management systems technology including factors which influence decisions by producers
Demonstrated knowledge of environmental, regulatory and product stewardship issues of Pioneer products and technologies and DuPont product offerings in relation to seed
Working knowledge of all aspects of field experimentation (regulated sites, small plot, large field)
Understanding of experimental designs
Capable of statistical analysis and graphical presentation for simple factorial trials
Understanding of yield monitors, mapping systems, and spatial data
Aptitude for and strong interest in establishing visual, interactive field demonstrations
Demonstrated communication and knowledge transfer skills in speaking and writing
Planning and organization ability
Hiring and supervisory experience of seasonal employees (interns)
Ability to work with a minimum of supervision by taking initiative to meet goals and objectives
Ability to interact with and facilitate projects across diverse groups (Sales, Research Centers, Supply Management Plants, Sales Reps, Growers, Universities)
