Director of Product Management

I am currently looking for a Director of Product Management for a client of mine who provides storage software used for functions such as data backup and disaster recovery. 

Position: Director of Product Management

Reports to: Managing Director and CEO
Location: Los Angeles County (by Western San Fernando Valley) – Office based, locals ideal but will consider relocation for the right person.
Compensation: 100K Base+ (DOE), Bonus Potential

My client is a high energy software development company rapidly gaining market share in the data protection and software service industry.  They are an international provider of software solutions for data availability and protection. They develop and market software products, which are implemented by numerous well-known customers throughout the world.  They are a leading player in the exploding backup/storage software industry and a pioneer in cloud based and Storage as a Service (SaaS) technologies. They are looking to attract a self motivated individual that can take an important leadership role, demonstrate their passion to be the best, have a fire in their belly and are driven by an entrepreneurial spirit.

As Director of Product Management, you are:

• Responsible for the P&L of our core product line


• The key driver of strategy and tactics to achieve business goals


• The pulse of the company


• The go to person


• The bridge between us and our full market potential


• The link joining all internal departments


• The voice and ear to our customers


• An expert in the MSP market


• A leader, a decision maker, an evangelist and a visionary.

This position reports straight to the top.  There is no easy ride.  You are expected to perform at exceptional levels at all times.  You will need to be willing to get dirty, roll up your sleeves and be prepared to take on anything in your path.  There is not a large supporting cast and there is not an unlimited budget.  Your value comes from your ability to create success based on the tools available or the ones you create.  You’re fully responsible for the success of the Product that will put you and our organization on the map.

Requirements:

• 3 years minimum Product Management experience


• Experience and success having your product line achieve quota


• Agile development experience (scrum)


• MSP market experience (expert level)


• Marketing driven but blessed with sales skills


• Solid leadership experience


• Strong technical understanding


• Backup software/Cloud/SaaS experience preferred


• Strong communication skills


• Well organized


• Ability to handle multiple tasks


• Ability to work well under pressure.


• Strong industry contacts


• Negotiating skills


• Enthusiastic team player, whom exudes creativity and drive


• Capable of sustaining rapid growth and adapting to change


• Ability to present to small and large crowds


• Ability to travel (10-20%, as needed)

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver on product line quota


• Own strategic roadmap


• Own and drive product growth, messaging and revenues


• Represent us as a product expert


• Execute on strategies and marketing plans


• Create MRDs and drive the development process


• Define/Develop Products, pricing, service offerings


• Create corporate and product messaging


• Manage product releases, trainings, announcements and launches


• Create and present product to all levels internally and externally


• Lead and contribute to web and marketing campaigns


• Attend industry events and tradeshows

Nice to have:
A backup/storage background from either Bakbone, R1Soft, CommVault, Symantec, EVault, Iron Mountain, Asigra or similar type companies. It would also be beneficial to have familiarity with Agile development philosophies.
