Job Description
1. Assess existing equipment, systems and control systems in the various manufacturing areas of the plant and determine the required changes to meet current design, OEE, reliability and documentation requirements.
2. Develop as-built technical documentation for existing systems and equipment: electrical/control drawings, control network diagrams, control components configurations, panel layout; BOMs, Spare Parts lists; check and correct for accuracy the PLC and PC program documentation.
3. Assess and document existing and new VFDs, controllers and recorders hardware and software configuration.
4. Develop, revise and execute procedures for the control systems software configuration and application installation, back up and restoration.
5. Update and develop User Requirement Specifications, Functional Specifications, Design Specifications, Operation and Maintenance Manuals for the new and existing equipment and control systems.
6. With minimal guidance, schedule and lead a cross-functional team through the planning and execution of multiple small projects or lead/participate in a larger project. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
7. Engineer and manage process equipment/control systems reliability improvement, optimization, expansion and upgrade projects. Engineer and manage new process equipment, control and automation projects from the concept to commissioning and validation.
8. Develop and formally execute Control System/Equipment Installation, Operation and Performance Commissioning protocols for modified or new equipment and control systems. Assist in preparation and execution of the Qualification protocols.
9. Lead and support equipment and control system reliability and maintenance projects. Train Control System Instrumentation Technicians on control system functionality (PLC, PC, network, instrumentation), troubleshooting and diagnostic methods and techniques. Troubleshoot and diagnose Control system complex problems, including Delta V, PLC, HMI and EBR. May supervise/coordinate technicians on assigned work.
10. Contribute in the development of the Standards for the different control system hardware and software. Participate in development of the Control System Master Plan.
Job Requirements
1. BS in Electrical or Chemical Engineering is required.
2. 6-8 years of Controls Engineering experience in Manufacturing environment, preferably in a cGMP process plant; or 6 years, working as a Control System Engineer in Engineering Design firm or Original Equipment Manufacturer.
3. Strong experience in electrical/controls design of complex control systems for manufacturing equipment.
4. Strong knowledge of PFD, P&ID and loop diagram standards; pumps and valves sizing and selection; temperature, pressure, flow, weight, humidity, conductivity, pH measurement and instrumentation; PID control.
5. Hands-on experience with VFDs, stand alone controllers, recorders, control relays, sensors and switches.
6. Proficient in programming on and experience with ""hands-on"" troubleshooting with some of the following systems: Allen Bradley PLCs and PaneView Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs), Siemens PLCs, Wonderware HMIs, Intellution HMIs, and DeltaV contol systems. Hands-on experience with ControlNet, DeviceNet, DH+, Profibus, Fieldbus or Ethernet industrial networks.
7. Proficient in MS Office, MS Project, Visio, Windows XP.
8. Display a solid understanding of theories/practices utilized by other disciplines outside of primary area of expertise.
9. Must be able to provide solutions that reflect understanding business objectives and cost implications.
10. Ability to convince management on courses of action with minimal assistance using both written and verbal methods.
11. Effectively operate in and lead cross-functional teams, coordinate contractors, and direct activities of technicians without guidance.
12. Successful track record of managing wide-ranging activities within the business unit.
13. Excellent communication, organizational and technical writing skills; willing to work in a team environment. Self-motivated, ready to work with minimum supervision; responsible, reliable.
14. Must be able to lift, push, pull and carry up to 50 lbs.
15. In general, the position requires a combination of sedentary work and walking around observing conditions in the facility.
16. Must be able to work in controlled environments requiring special gowning. Will be required to follow gowning requirements and wear protective clothing over the head, face, hands, feet and body.
17. No make-up, jewelry, contact lenses, nail polish or artificial fingernails may be worn in the work environment.
18. Must be able to work multiple shifts, including weekends
19. Must be able to work overtime as required.
20. May be required to work in a confined area.
21. May work in cold, wet environment.
22. May be working in a loud area that requires hearing protection and other protective equipment to be worn.
23. May work around chemicals such as alcohol, acids, buffers and celite that may require respiratory protection.
24. Some Clean Room, cold, wet and cool/hot environment.
