I believe my work is my calling. A Senior Tax Accountant:
Prepares and/or reviews federal, state and local income (including extensions and estimated tax payments), sales and use, and personal property tax returns, as well as, unclaimed property and business license filings.
Prepares and/or reviews supporting documentation for tax filings, including assisting in creation of legal entity accounting.
Ensures timely and accurate compliance with federal, state and local tax laws/regulations.
Reviews/reconciles general ledger federal/state income tax payable accounts.
Keeps abreast of new/changes to federal/state/local income, sales and use, personal property tax, unclaimed property and business license laws/regulations and ensures company compliance.
Performs technical tax research/planning, interprets laws/regulations and implements changes as necessary.
Develops/implements tax reduction strategies.
Participate in the research and analysis of proposed and existing business transaction to determine the effect upon taxes.
Assists with federal and state tax audits. Gathers/organizes necessary documents for government auditors and works to minimize tax assessment and/or penalties. Contacts federal/state/city tax agencies' staff to resolve assessment notices and/or outstanding issues and to ensure minimal penalties/interest.
Responds to inquiries from field staff, researches tax laws/regulations and provides company-wide guidance on other tax related issues as necessary.
Assists federal tax director as needed with accounting for income tax requirements.
Reviews fixed/intangible asset reports and evaluates book and tax basis differences for disclosure in tax provision analysis and income tax returns.
Prepares quarterly and year end current and deferred tax provisions under SFAS 109 and evaluates adequacy of tax accruals on the balance sheet.
Stays current with changes in tax laws, regulations, and policies/procedures and provides tax related guidance to internal business partners and company leadership.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting with CPA license or CPA candidate preferred.
Minimum of three years public accounting experience or four to five years federal/state tax experience in the large corporate tax department generally required.
Thorough knowledge of tax codes/regulations, returns and filing requirements.
Knowledge of tax management/compliance software and tax research software required.
Strong spreadsheet and database skills required.
System report writing skills a plus.
Excellent analytical and communication skills also required.
