Technical Director
Technical Director, Database Operations Position Overview This position reports to the Sr. Technical Director of IT Operations at AT&T Wi-Fi Services and will manage the DBA team which manages all corporate databases and database related applications in an exciting 24x7, fast-paced, high transaction volume environment.
Major Responsibilities/Duties • Manage the database administration staff, including day-to-day task management, performance evaluations and full-time and contractor hiring
• Present database analysis data, design and performance recommendations to senior management
• Manage corporate Oracle database architecture, interconnections, and schemas for the storage and retrieval of corporate information in a high transaction rate, mission critical 24x7 environments.
• Manage database planning, scaling, and capacity planning activities
• Manage database design, index creation, database optimization, and performance tuning
• Design and implement new data models, tables, and schemas to support new functionality as the business demands
• Management of all database software patches and upgrades
• Ensure high availability of production databases
• Manage multiple physical standby/failover servers in remote facilities
• Work closely with the software development teams in designing changes to the database structure
Requirements for the Position Successful candidate will meet the following requirements:
Bachelor Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or similar discipline (or equivalent work experience)
• Minimum 2-5 years managing an active OLTP database and DBA team
• Minimum 5-10 years of senior level Oracle DBA experience
• Proven ability to manage an Oracle database infrastructure in a high transaction/high availability environment
• Knowledge and experience with Oracle database maintenance
• Experience in database design, index creation, capacity planning, tuning, and optimization
• Strong skills in database protection, backup, and recovery (RMAN, DataGuard, etc...)
• Oracle RAC and other high availability architectures experience a must
• Tools: Quest, Erwin, Toad and SQL*plus, Yasql or equivalent
• PCI experience (desired, but not required)
• Data Warehousing experience (desired, but not required)
• SAP experience (desired, but not required)
• Excellent written and oral communications skills with demonstrated commitment to production of high quality documentation
• Professional demeanor and strong work ethic
• Demonstrated commitment to providing excellent customer service
• Willingness to work off-hours as necessary
