If you want to find the ultimate one-stop shop to learn about all things related to your major and your career, you really do not have to look any further than your school’s career services center. After all, here you can find information related to choosing a major - to career self-evaluation - to finding a job and everything in between. Better still, if you are a full-time student, most of these services are available to you free of charge or at highly discounted prices.

For instance, if you are just starting your college career, you may still be undecided about what you want to major in and/or pursue as a career. Fortunately, the career services section at your college has the ability to effectively cater to these important issues. For instance, the career services center provides a great deal of information regarding potential careers and the education requirements that are necessary to obtain the pertinent qualifications for these careers. Further, if you need help deciding which career path is the best one for you, you can undertake informal and more formal self-evaluation. Moreover, you can make an appointment with a career counselor to discuss your self evaluation and other career related concerns. Remember that a career counselor is specifically trained to help you with these types of matters – and at most schools, talking with a career counsellor is free of charge while you are still a student.

Of course, as you may expect, the career services office at your college can also offer you other career related training. For instance, you can learn exactly how to write resumes, cover letters, and ace job interviews through the wide net of information that they have available to you. Further, if you are interested in a more interactive experience, most colleges also offer workshops and even mock interview sessions to aid you. Career services also provides plenty of information regarding internships that you may be eligible for. Of course, as an internship can provide you with on-the-job work experience and allow you to test-drive a career so-to-speak, this endeavour is one that should seriously be considered. In addition to these services, career services also can offer job shadow experiences, organized career fairs, job shadowing opportunities, company recruitment events, job leads, and much more.

Convinced about visiting your career services center? You should be! ;)
