  • WestRock Real Estate Intern

    WestRock is a global paper and packaging company, based in Atlanta, with over 800 real estate locations comprised of paper mills, packaging plants, warehouses, logistics lots, corporate offices, specialty locations such as labs and machine shops, and other real estate such as vacant land and leased or subleased properties. It's Real Estate & Facilities department is comprised of a director, a real estate manager, a real estate analyst, a facilities manager, facilities support staff and, by extension, persons working through resource partners such as facilities service providers and real estate service providers. Real Estate handles real estate transactions, administration, data, documents, and strategy across WestRock's global platform while Facilities handles facilities services fort the company's 6 U.S. corporate locations.

    WestRock is working to evolve its real estate program specifically to establish a single source of truth for all real estate in the company through a migration to full use of CoStar Real Estate Manager real estate management platform. In addition to and alongside this project, WestRock is looking to develop a Real Estate & Facilities Playbook to capture the basic elements, best practices, standards and conventions, procedures and resources. Finally, WestRock is also going through a merger with another company, Smurfit Kappa, which is expected to be culminating in Summer 2024 and will add 400+ locations to the company's real estate portfolio.

    Summer intern experience could involve

    • Participation and assisting with the migration to CoStar, including data and document protocols, lease and building abstracting and verification, developing standard and customized reporting, etc.

    • Evaluating data and analytics platforms which could be put into use for the company's future ability to perform strategic analyses involving real estate.

    • Assisting in the development of the WestRock Real Estate & Facilities Playbook and its components.

    • Assisting in on-boarding the additional real estate assets involved in the merger.

    • Assisting with various real estate projects through review and analysis of leases, researching properties, property opportunities, facilitating surveys and title searches, evaluation of lease reconciliations, preparation of notices, facilitating BOVs, working with real estate service providers on market data, preparing real estate deal profiles for approvals, etc.

    • Assisting with internal special project

    • Work would be a combination of remote and in-office setting - WestRock is located in Northpark office complex, adjacent to the Sand Springs MARTA station.

    • Hours can vary but generally would be minimum 20 hours and up to 30 hours per week during the business days and week.

    • Intended calendar would be approximately May 20 - August 9, 2024, to be finalized - up to approximately 11 weeks.
