    As a Research AHT I, you will monitor and care for the health and well-being of research animals. The person in this role supports foundational pre-clinical research that will one day improve the lives of patients around the world.

    Responsibilities:

    • Performs daily health observations and monitors the condition of research animals.

    • Provides custodial care, fresh feed, and fresh water to animals according to the standard operating procedures.

    • Receives animal shipments and completes required documentation.

    • Ensures that areas used for technical procedures are well maintained and adequately supplied.

    • Transports supplies, equipment and animals to and from various locations.

    • Other duties as assigned.

    Education:

    • High School Diploma or GED.

    • Must be willing to be trained to properly handle all species of animals housed within the department.

    Languages:

    • N/A

    Certifications:

    • None required

    Complexity of Work:

    • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

    • Must be able to make quick decisions, identify options and take appropriate action.

    • Must be flexible and complete the job before leaving work. Animal care is a 7-days per week, 365-days per year job.

    Work Experience:

    • Experience in the custodial care of animals preferred.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Ability to lift and transport equipment and/or animals weighing up to 75 pounds using carts with casters.

    • Capable of tolerating a significant amount of standing, bending and walking.

    • May be required to work with biological, chemical and radiation hazards after proper training

    Personal Protective Equipment:

    • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
