    Job Summary and Qualifications

    Under supervision of manager or supervisor, the Retail Attendant is expected to perform a variety of duties for the set up and serving of food at the Coffee Shop. Responsible for following correct cash handling procedures and staying within the over/under standard of .05% of sales. Responsible for cleaning and organization of assigned work areas.

    Cashier Responsibilities:

    • Locks/unlocks work area

    • Operates cash register, including collecting money, giving change, receipts and balancing for each meal.

    • Serves visitors and employees courteously and efficiently.

    • Explains menu and food items if necessary.

    • Returns unused items to specified areas; properly stores cold leftover if they are to be used for the next meal service.

    • Checks menu of all items needed coming on duty; ensures that all food listed on menu is available.

    • Turns on all equipment when working early position

    • Turns off and maintains all equipment when working late position.

    • Stocks necessary retail environment items such as: condiments, soda, sandwiches, salads, desserts, miscellaneous refrigerated items, chips, snacks, candy, non-food items such as cups, napkins, flatware, and other disposables, etc.. Checks for variety and attractiveness.

    • Checks that proper holding temperatures are maintained, by taking temperatures prior and during meal service.

    • Obtains proper utensils for service and is aware of portion sizes for each item.

    • Prepares daily items for cafeteria and or coffee shop/gift shop, (i.e., tuna fish salad, assorted salad entrees, sandwiches) displays for gift shop.

    • Serves customers swiftly, does not allow customer back up.

    • Handles money, when acting as cashier, according to Hospital's Policies & Procedures and fills out cash report completely and accurately after each meal period.

    • Cleans, sanitizes, stocks, fills work area equipment as needed.

    • Promptly reports food shortages or potential food shortages to supervisor.

    • Cleans all work areas, walls, equipment, storage areas, and station according to establishing cleaning schedule and/or equipment manufacturer.

    • Uses all necessary food service equipment as needed, using proper safety precautions and operation procedures (steam table, slicing machine, knives, coffee machine, yogurt machine, coffee machine, popcorn maker, cash register, grill, deep fat fryer, hot dog cooker, ice tea, juice machine, toaster, microwave, fryer, and refrigerators).

    • Records refrigerator temperatures daily.

    • Uses approved techniques (department policies) in the handling and service of food items.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

    This position requires a good working knowledge of the cash register, and Hospital policies and procedures regarding the handling of money. Duties include set up of the cafeteria, and/or gift/coffee shop, salad bar, grill and condiment station. The primary method to express or exchange ideas is by the spoken word. Most of the day is spent interacting with staff and visitors. Ability to conduct oneself in a mature and professional manner at all times. Ability to receive and respond to instructions and work harmoniously with hospital personnel. Ability to learn operation of equipment, simple food preparation tasks and customer relations. When requested, the retail attendant may be expected to perform other duties assigned by a supervisor.

    What qualifications you will need:

    High school or GED

    Handle multiple priorities

    Work alone/independently

    1 - 3 years experience preferred
